Colombia
Colombia has the third largest installed hydropower capacity in South America with untapped hydro potential up to 14 GW, currently the instaled capacity is ca 11.4 GW. About 900 sites have been identified as having small hydro power with potential installed output of ca 1.8 GW. Driven by increasing demand and an integrated power grid with neighbouring countries, the hydropower sector is continuing to expand.
RENFIN started developing projects in Colombia in 2017 and since then it has already acquired 3 projects in the regions of Antioquia and Nariño. One of them, Opongoy II has head of more than 300 m with 12 MW output. The total installed capacity of all three projects is 36 500 kW.
